I was curious. I was eighteen\n&amp; ignorant. You told me the little<br>\nyou thought I could handle.\nThirty years gone since then<br>\nto wives, meth, government checks&#8230;\nLast year they took a kidney<br>\n&amp; a few inches more of your right thigh.\nYour two sons were fed to a different war<br>\n&amp; spit back out. Now\nthey induct the nervous teenagers of Phoenix<br>\ninto the intricacies of parallel parking,\nthe number of feet to trail the car ahead.<br>\nYou &amp; I are a late-night phone call.\nYou stretch out beside your drained pool,<br>\nshirtless in the heat\nwith a bottle of Jack, I cradle my California wine.<br>\nWhen your new prosthesis topples\nto the cement by the lounge chair<br>\nI try to hear\nwhat the fallen man says<br>\nas you set him upright.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Forms of Love<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\nI love you but I&#8217;m married.<br>\nI love you but I wish you had more hair.<br>\nI love you more.<br>\nI love you more like a friend.<br>\nI love your friends more than you.<br>\nI love how when we go into a mall and classical muzak is playing,<br>\nyou can always name the composer.<br>\nI love you, but one or both of us is\/are fictional.<br>\nI love you but &#8220;I&#8221; am an unstable signifier.<br>\nI love you saying, &#8220;I understand the semiotics of that,&#8221; when I said,<br>\n&#8220;I had a little personal business to take care of.&#8221;<br>\nI love you as long as you love me back.<br>\nI love you in spite of the restraining order.<br>\nI love you from the coma you put me in.<br>\nI love you more than I&#8217;ve ever loved anyone, except for this one guy.<br>\nI love you when you&#8217;re not drunk and stupid.<br>\nI love how you get me.<br>\nI love your pain, it&#8217;s so competitive.<br>\nI love how emotionally unavailable you are.<br>\nI love you like I&#8217;m a strange backyard and you&#8217;re running from the cops,<br>\nlooking for a place to stash your gun.<br>\nI love your hair.<br>\nI love you but I&#8217;m just not that into you.<br>\nI love you secretly.<br>\nI love how you make me feel like I&#8217;m a monastery in the desert.<br>\nI love how you defined grace as the little turn the blood in the syringe<br>\ntakes when you&#8217;re shooting heroin, after you pull back the plunger<br>\nslightly to make sure you&#8217;ve hit the vein.<br>\nI love your mother, she&#8217;s the opposite of mine.<br>\nI love you and feel a powerful spiritual connection to you, even though<br>\nwe&#8217;ve never met.<br>\nI love your tacos!
