The Post 9/11 GI Bill® provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of active duty service on or after September 11, 2001, or for individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill®. Your benefit will be based on your length of active duty service.

Transfer of Post 9/11 GI Bill® Benefits to Dependents (TEB)

The transferability option under the Post-9/11 GI Bill® allows Service members to transfer all or some unused benefits to their spouse or dependent children.

The request to transfer unused GI Bill® benefits to eligible dependents must be completed while serving as an active member of the Armed Forces.  The Department of Defense (DoD) determines whether or not you can transfer benefits to your family. Once the DoD approves benefits for transfer, the new beneficiaries will need to apply for them at VA via their online application.

Survivors’ and Dependents’ Educational Assistance (DEA) Program

The Dependents’ Educational Assistance (Chapter 35 DEA) program offers education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to service-related conditions or who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition.

  • This benefit is paid by the VA monthly while in classes, directly to the student via direct deposit. View rates online at GI Bill Comparison Tool.
  • Benefits are available for undergraduate and graduate training for up to 36 months.

Montgomery GI Bill®

The MGIB-AD program—known as Chapter 30—provides education benefits to Veterans and Service members who have at least two years of active duty.  Eligible Service members may receive up to 36 months of education benefits. You usually have 10 years to use your MGIB benefits.

Montgomery GI Bill® Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR)

Montgomery GI Bill® Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR)

MGIB-SR program – known as Chapter 1606- provides education and training benefits to eligible members of the Armed Forces Selected Reserve; includes Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Coast Guard Reserve, Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. Eligibility for this program is determined by the DOD Selected Reserve components and VA makes the payments.

Veteran Readiness & Employment (VR&E)

Veteran Readiness & Employment (VR&E)

This program is designed to assist veterans with service-connected disabilities obtain and maintain employment.  Also referred to as Chapter 31, VR&E helps those eligible with job training, employment accommodations, resume development, and job seeking skills coaching. Attending school can be part of this retraining process.

Eligibility:

  • Didn’t receive a dishonorable discharge, and
  • Have a service-connected disability rating of at least 10% from VA, and
  • Apply for VR&E services

I have been approved for Chapter 31, what do I do now?
1.  Get in contact with the VRC Staff in Showalter Hall Room 122.
2.  Turn in your schedule to VRC office when you have registered for current term.

I’m approved for Chapter 31, when can I pick up my book card?
Bookstore cards are available approx 2 weeks before the start of a new quarter, depending on the quarter and break period between quarters.  Notification will be sent out from the VRC Staff.

What fees does chapter 31 funding cover?
Chapter 31 covers tuition & fees; parking permit.  Parking permit will be available when VRC Staff notifies you.
