{"id":812,"date":"2024-01-23T10:31:20","date_gmt":"2024-01-23T18:31:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/test-inside.ewu.edu\/strategic-planning\/?page_id=812"},"modified":"2024-01-23T11:01:37","modified_gmt":"2024-01-23T19:01:37","slug":"october-town-hall-summary","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/test-inside.ewu.edu\/strategic-planning\/october-town-hall-summary\/","title":{"rendered":"October Town Hall Summary"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On Friday, October 27, 2023 members of the Eastern Washington University Community were invited to participate in Town Hall 2 to review the draft statements of  mission, vision and values developed by the Strategic Planning Committee (SPC). In addition, attendees&#8217; were asked to comment on the five goal categories for the plan developed by SPC. Over 150 participants attended the town hall. An opportunity was presented for participants to attend a zoom session at the Spokane Center and approximately 35 participants attended via zoom from other remote sights. Participants at the in person session were divided into groups of 4-8 participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants were asked to comment on the drafts developed by the SPC. A copy of the draft statements are attached. The consultant, John Welty, reviewed and summarized the comments which appear below. If more than one group indicated similar comments, the number of groups so indicating appears in parentheses at the end of the statements. Comments are divided into two sections. One section gives specific suggestions made by the groups and the second section includes general comments made by the groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>VALUES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>SUGGESTIONS<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Accessibility \u2013 Should include mental health, DSS services (3)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add \u201cScholarship\u201d as a value (3)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add \u201cAcademic Excellence\u201d as a value (3)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student Success should be listed first (2)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add : Life Long Student Success\u201d as a value<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add \u201cCommunity of Care\u201d as a value<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add \u201cComfortability for Student Safety\u201d as a value<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add \u201cpositive Regional Impact\u201d as a value<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add \u201cEncouraging Student Success\u201d as a value<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add \u201cAffordability\u201d as a value<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add \u201cHigh Quality, Relevant Instruction Leading to Student Success\u201d as a value<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add a \u201cSense of individuality and direction\u201d to make it clear<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drop Accessibility, Sustainability and Stewardship as value statements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>COMMENTS<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Are Sustainability and Stewardship the right words? What do these statements mean? They are \u201cclunky\u201d (14)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What does Accessibility mean? (2)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What does Regional impact and contribution to the community mean?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No mention of transformation\/transformative<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sustainability and stewardship are distinct from each other<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Regional impact is critical.
