This picture was taken in 1960 of the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) drill team. Back then Eastern Washington University (EWU) was called Eastern Washington College-Cheney. Do any alumni remember wearing this drill team uniform back in the 1960’s?
In 1961 when I started, it was called Eastern Washington College of Education
The Sponsor Corp drill team I took to Reno in 1972 could out drill those 1960 guys. COLONEL TOM TALKINTON 1958 GRAD..
@Jerry, as I mentioned on Facebook I think the school’s name changed in 1961 because the yearbook I pulled this picture from has Eastern Washington College-Cheney on its cover.
@Tom, we don’t have a drill team anymore here at EWU, but maybe we can bring you back to start one! 😉
By the way it is awesome to have a 1958 graduate commenting on here. Have a great weekend!
I was a member of the 1955-1956 ROTC Drill Team at Eastern Washington College of Education. I can remember competing with other regional ROTC teams at the University of Idaho, but dressed in a strictly standard ROTC uniform which were “pinks and greens” at that time. I graduated in 1959. I thought I might recognize someone in the photo but I do not. The Sponsor Corps uniform is the same as “my” era. When I got to Fort Belvoir in June of 1959, it was the first time I had ever seen the Army khaki shorts uniform, so this “new look” probably was developed after May 1959. I wonder when the ROTC Arms Room might have been updated with the M-1 rifles, if ever.
