How to Register

Register through EagleNET

  1. Log on to InsideEWU and click on EagleNET on the navigation bar near the top of the page.
  2. Under the Student Tab, select “Registration”
  3. Select the term. If your registration window is open, you will ask to “Register for Classes”. You can use the Subject/Course Number field to search for courses.
  4. To select a course to add to your schedule, click the “add” button next to the course.
  5. The course will be added to a pending registration worksheet.  If the course has times and days, you will see the course added to your weekly calendar.  It will also be added as pending in the summary section.
  6. To Search for additional classes, click “search again”.
  7. You can use the drop-down menus to waitlist or remove the course. To register for classes, you will need to click “submit”.
  8. Once you submit, your summary panel will be updated with your registered credits and the status of each class.

For non-current students:

Non-matriculated (non-admitted) students are eligible to register no earlier than two weeks prior to the first day of class. They may register for classes for two consecutive quarters without being admitted to the University. Additional enrollment (excluding summer session) requires an application for admissions.

Summer session enrollment is open to matriculated and non-matriculated students.

To take courses as a non-matriculated student, please complete a pre-registration form. Please allow 3-5 business days for processing.

Non-matriculated students are not eligible to apply for financial aid.

Add or Drop Classes

Refer to the Academic Calendar for specific add/drop deadlines.

Students can register online using EagleNet or the Academic Planner during their initial registration window.

For standard* 10-week quarter classes or 15-week semester courses:

  • A LATE ADD OVERRIDE must be obtained from the instructor starting the 4th day before registering for the course online.
  • Course drops (no record on the student transcript) can be initiated online before the 11th day of the term.
  • Individual course withdrawals (W grade assigned on transcript) can be completed online through the 7th week of the term.
  • A schedule change fee of $32.50 may be assessed for each schedule change action. (Refer to the Academic Calendar for start dates for schedule change fees.)

*Summer session, accelerated online programs, and non-standard courses have varied deadlines.

If you are dropping or withdrawing from all of your courses, please submit a COMPLETE WITHDRAWAL FORM.

Late Add Authorization

Late Registration Fee Waiver Request Form

All registrations require instructor permission beginning the fourth business day of the term. Instructors will need to add a Late Add override to students’ accounts to register online.

A late registration fee will be charged for students not previously enrolled starting the fourth business day of the term.

Closed Sections

If a course is closed and has a waitlist option, you may choose to be placed on the waitlist for that course section. On EagleNET, you will see a drop-down menu item “Action” with a “Web Wait List” option if a class has available room on the waitlist. Select this option to be added to the waitlist.

You may also request to be placed on a waitlist by visiting our office in person. To determine if a course has a waitlist available, look up your course in the “Course Section Search” and find the column “WL ACT.”  This column indicates how many waitlist seats a course has available.
Please be aware that being placed on the waitlist indicates that you would like a spot in that course.

  • This does not guarantee you a spot in the course.
  • You are responsible for officially dropping or withdrawing from any course that you have been waitlisted for or enrolled in and do not wish to take.

Waitlists

  • Waitlists are established at the preference of the department. This is communicated to Records and Registration during the proofing process. The waitlist maximum on the course section can be increased or decreased from a default of 10 any time during the open registration period via departmental written notification to Records and Registration.
  • Once a waitlist is established, no additional students can be enrolled in the course even if openings are available until the entire waitlist is cleared. Existing students on the waitlist will be enrolled automatically when an opening occurs in the course section.
  • If a faculty wishes to give a student permission to enroll in a closed (full) course section that has a waitlist, the faculty should wait until the 4th day of the quarter to sign the registration form giving permission for the enrollment. The waitlist will continue to run automatically through the end of the 3rd day of the quarter. No students can be added through faculty signature until the end of the waitlist process (the end of the 3rd day of the quarter).

You should not put yourself on the waitlist when you are enrolled in another section of the same course. You also should not be waitlisted into more than one section of the same course. When a seat becomes available in a course you are waitlisted for, you will receive an email in your EWU email account telling you that you will be registered for the course. If you have a hold on your record or registration into the course puts you in an overload status (over 18 quarter credits), we will not be able to register you. Please contact our office immediately if you cannot confirm that you have been registered within 24 hours of receiving the email notification. If you no longer wish to be enrolled in the course, you must drop yourself from the course on EagleNET or in person. You are responsible for tuition and fees for all registered classes. If you have received instructor permission on your registration form to add a course with a waitlist, we will not be able to register you in the course until the fourth business day of the quarter.

Note: Waitlisted course credits are not included in your billing statement or for financial aid received. Time conflicts will not be checked for waitlisted courses.


Directed Studies & Internships

Requesting Directed/Independent Studies and Internships classes be added to the schedule for registration must be submitted based on individual colleges.

College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences

Enrollment into these Directed Studies and Internships must be submitted through the Electronic Request Form.

College of Health Sciences & Public Health

Enrollment into these Directed Studies and Internships must be submitted through the department.

College of Professional Programs

Enrollment into these Directed Studies and Internships must be submitted through the department.

College of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics

Enrollment into these Directed Studies and Internships must be submitted through the Electronic Request Form.

Overloading Credits

Undergraduate Section Overload Requirement

  • 19-22 credits requires an advisor signature
  • Over 22 credits also requires the signature of the Director of General Undergraduate Advising (undeclared majors) or the student’s department chair (declared majors)

Graduate Section Overload Requirement

  • Over 18 credits requires signatures from the student’s advisor and the appropriate department chair or designee
  • Students receiving a graduate service appointment must also have the approval of the Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Research to enroll in overload credits

Dropping a Class

To drop a class on EagleNET:

  1. Log on Eaglenet 
  2. Under the Student Tab, Select “Registration”, and “Add or Drop Classes”
  3. Select the term.
  4. To select a course to drop from your schedule, click the “Drop” button next to the course.
  5. The course will be dropped from your schedule.
  6. Once you submit, your summary panel will be updated with your registered credits and the status of each class.
  7. A schedule change fee may be assessed for each schedule change action. (Refer to the Academic Calendar for start dates for schedule change fees.)

EWU Employee Registration

As authorized by RCW 28B.15.558 and EWU Policy, eligible employees may apply for a tuition fee waiver under the following criteria. Please see EWU Policy 409-04 for complete eligibility requirements.

Eligibility

  1. Be a permanent employee of Eastern Washington University. Classified employees must have obtained permanent status.
  2. If seeking a degree, the employee must be formally admitted to the University by the published admissions deadline.
  3. Pay the $5 non-refundable tuition waiver fee and all applicable course and/or late fees at the time of registration.
  • Submit a completed EWU Employee Tuition Waiver form for each quarter the waiver is requested accompanied by the Registration and Overrides Form or Non-Degree Registration form.
  • The EWU Employee Tuition Waiver form must be submitted at the time of registration.
  • Submit a completed EWU Employee Tuition Waiver form for any course(s) added after an initial waiver form has been submitted.
  • All fees must be paid in full at time of registration.
  • Request registration for state supported course(s) no earlier than seven days before the beginning of the quarter. EWU employee registration dates
  • Note: Registration of over 10 credit hours and/or registering earlier than seven days prior to the beginning of the quarter negates the employee’s eligibility for the tuition waiver and will result in full tuition and fees being assessed.

Exclusions

  • The tuition waiver may not be used for self-support courses, including summer session or for individualized instruction (such as independent study, directed study, thesis, dissertation, research, internship, tutorial, private lesson, or practicum).
  • The University may exclude certain state-funded courses or programs on the basis of academic or fiscal considerations.
  • There must be space available in the course for registration to occur.
  • Participants approved to use the tuition fee waiver will not be allowed to waitlist or get instructor permission to over enroll in a course.
  • Membership in the university recreational facilities is required to register for any classes housed in those facilities. Recreational facilities include the University Recreation Center, PHASE and all university fields and courts. Membership is attained in one of two ways: either by paying the mandatory URC fee as a student or by purchasing an employee or community membership for the period of the class.

WA State Employee Registration

As authorized by RCW 28B.15.558 a Washington state employee may apply for a tuition fee waiver under the following criteria. Please see Policy 409-04 for complete eligibility requirements.

Eligibility

  1. Must apply to, be admitted to, and degree seeking at EWU.
  2. Non-Degree registrations may not be used in conjunction with waiver.

Registration

  • A state employee of Washington Tuition Fee Waiver Request Form must be submitted for each quarter and received by the Records and Registration office no less than 15 business days prior to the first day of the quarter (no exceptions). Waiver request forms received after this date will not be accepted.
  • State employees are eligible to register on the first day of the quarter by completing an Registration and Overrides Form.
  • Note: If employees register prior to the first day of the quarter, all courses will be dropped from their schedule by Records and Registration.
  • WA state employee registration dates
  • Registration must take place in person at: Sutton Hall 2nd floor or EWU Spokane Student Support.
  • The $30 non-refundable registration fee and other fees are due at time of registration. EWU accepts cash, bankcard (Visa, MasterCard) or check.

Credit Limit
A maximum of six quarter hours are allowed.
Employees enrolled for more than six credits are not eligible for the waiver and will be responsible for full tuition for all credits.

Fees
A non-refundable registration fee of $30 per quarter will be assessed to each participant to cover the costs of program administration. In addition, participants will be charged for special course fees, when applicable. Late registration, add, drop and withdrawal fees will be charged according to the published fees schedule.

Exclusions

  • The tuition waiver may not be used for self-support courses, including summer session or for individualized instruction (such as independent study, directed study, thesis, dissertation, research, internship, tutorial, private lesson, or practicum).

  • State employees using the waiver are not eligible to use services and facilities supported by service and activity fees nor are they eligible to purchase tickets to athletic or performing arts events at student rates.

Grades
Grades will be determined and posted to transcripts in the same manner as regular tuition students. We do not send out grades. Grades are available on your EagleNET account.

Audit a Class

Audit Authorization Form

Audit Authorization:

  •  will be granted only for sections using the lecture method of instruction;
  •  will be granted on a space-available basis during the first ten days of the term;
  •  may be cancelled by the instructor at any time during the term by notifying the auditor, the department chair and the registrar.

Notes

Auditing a section requires the written permission of the instructor and the department chair or academic dean.
Auditors will not be allowed access to individual instruction, to equipment or to supplies in conjunction with the section.
Auditors are not entitled to student benefits.
The university will maintain no official record of the auditor’s participation in the section.

Fees

The audit fee is non-refundable.
The audit fee will be assessed at the current per-credit tuition, unless the auditor is eligible for the senior citizen waiver or special summer session audit rate.
Senior citizens (age 60 or older) residents of Washington state, may audit lecture sections for no audit fee.

What is a CRN?

Course Registration Numbers (CRNs) are assigned each term to a specific section of a course.

  • The CRN is on each course listed in the course section for each term on EagleNET.
  • When using the CRN, be sure that you have the correct number for the appropriate term, course section and location.

What is a section number?

Sections numbers can give information on a class’s location and a state- or self-support program. Check EagleNET (Student Profile) to view your declared program and campus.
