Submitting to multiple genres is accepted and encouraged. Please send each genre submission in a separate email. Make sure to follow the correct guidelines for each corresponding genre.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n

General Guidelines<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authors will submit only their own original work that has not been previously published in a newspaper, magazine, or periodical. If a work is accepted by us, the author will retain all copyright.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authors will submit only on behalf of themselves. It is assumed that the submitter of the document is its author. Plagiarism and intellectual theft are not tolerated, and if discovered, will result in the exclusion of the submitter\u2019s works from the magazine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simultaneous submissions are allowed. Contact us as soon as possible if your work has been accepted for publication elsewhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attention to conventions for grammar, spelling, and formatting are essential. Please ensure that your work has been edited and proofread and is ready for publication before submitting it to us. Contact the EWU Writer\u2019s Center if you would like personalized help to ensure your work is at the highest possible quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you have a pen name or preferred name, please include your preferred name in the email subject line and body. <\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n

Document Guidelines<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To preserve the integrity of our acceptance process, we ask that you do not put your name anywhere in the document name or in the document itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While we do not require official cover letters, we ask you write a professional email. If you are unsure of what to write, here is an example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other Information<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We understand that your work may include themes that might be off-putting for some audiences, and that\u2019s okay: if your work contains sensitive topics, please include a content warning in the body of your email. Failing to give our staff any necessary content warning, or submitting any work that is purposefully offensive\/discriminatory will result in your entire submission being discarded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If there are people whose real names are included in your works, please get their permission to publish that work before you send it to us. Alternatively, you may change the names included in your works prior to submitting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We want this magazine to be as inclusive, diverse, and accessible as possible for all members of Eastern Washington University\u2019s community. For this reason, we will be excited to include works by diverse groups regardless of age, sex, gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, etc., but please know that we will be looking at the quality of the work rather than the biographical information on the author when making decisions on what to publish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We welcome work from writers of all educational backgrounds\u2014you do not need to be an English, Creative Writing, or Art major to submit your work to us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you have a preferred first\/last name that is not your legal name, please use your preferred name for both the subject of your email and the title of your submission. Clarify in the body of your email which name you would like your work to be published under.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n

Contact Information and Response Time<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We assure you that we will do our best to give everyone a timely response on their submission status, however, in order to provide each piece with fair and equal opportunity, this process may take a few weeks or even months. Our staff is working diligently to ensure that we are not rushing your work and we ask for your patience during this process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will reach out to the email you submitted your work with to contact you about the status of your submission. There is no need to give us any additional contact information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poetry Guidelines<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each author may send us one email submission including one to five original poems they feel are representative of their abilities, not exceeding ten pages. All poems should be on one Word document (.doc, .docx file types).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each poem should start on its own, fresh page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your entire submission should be formatted in Times New Roman or Arial, 12pt font, and be single-spaced (unless you want your lines to be double-spaced when published). Please include a header with page numbers at the top of your document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Any indents, stanza breaks, and\/or page breaks will be considered intentional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your poems should look the way you want them to if\/when we decide to publish them (though we can and will edit your work if necessary).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If one stanza ends and another begins on the next page, please put [Stanza Break] in brackets on top of the following page, above the next stanza\u2019s first line\u2013otherwise, we may assume there is no break and that the stanza is meant to continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
