Congratulations to new McNair Scholar Jules Amante! Juliana was selected by the McNair Scholars’ selection committee on the basis of her passion for research, commitment to attaining a PhD, and overall potential for success in graduate school.
The federally-funded TRIO Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program at EWU selects motivated and talented juniors and seniors who are first-generation and low-income college students, and/or from groups underrepresented at the doctoral level to introduce them to academic research and provide them with effective strategies for getting into and graduating from PhD programs.
Julianna (Jules) Amante will graduate in fall of 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in history. Her research interests include Archives and the censorship of archival materials, accessibility to historical information by the public, and the effects of restricting information in the academic world. She will Participate in the 2023 Northwest Regional Phi Alpha Theta (The National History Honor Society) Conference. In the spring of 2023, Jules interned at EWU in the Archives and Special Collections room to gain experience in her field of interest. She aims to attend graduate school for a double major in Library science and Public History with a focus on archives, and later a Ph.D. in Library Science. Jules will conduct her 2024 McNair Summer Research Internship alongside EWU faculty research mentor Dr. Jacki Hedlund Tyler.
