Congratulations to new McNair Scholar Eleanor Strathmore! Eleanor was selected by the McNair Scholars’ selection committee on the basis of her passion for research, commitment to attaining a PhD, and overall potential for success in graduate school.
The federally-funded TRIO Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program at EWU selects motivated and talented juniors and seniors who are first-generation and low-income college students, and/or from groups underrepresented at the doctoral level to introduce them to academic research and provide them with effective strategies for getting into and graduating from PhD programs.
Elanor Strathmore is a dedicated and passionate student currently working towards her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Eleanor’s commitment to academic excellence has earned her a place on the dean’s list, and she is a member of the honors society. Looking ahead, Eleanor envisions herself pursuing a Ph.D. in Psychology to become a professor and researcher at a university. She seeks to advance research on the intricate study of intergenerational trauma and the effects of service on the descendants of combat veterans. By combining her passion for teaching with her commitment to groundbreaking research, she aims to inspire the next generation of psychologists and contribute to the evolving field of intergenerational trauma studies.
Eleanor’s dedication to her field is further exemplified by her upcoming role as a research assistant at Eastern Washington University’s Psychology department, working closely with Dr. Tim Lower. She will conduct her 2024 McNair Summer Research Internship alongside her EWU faculty research mentor, Dr. Shanna Davis.
