Hello EWU community,<\/p>\n
I am Liya, Social Sciences Librarian and Assistant Professor at the JFK Library. \u00a0I received my Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina in 2016. My doctoral research\u00a0focused on the impact of museum experience on learning and socialization of children with special needs. My current\u00a0scholarly agenda\u00a0spans the areas of student information behavior and library instruction, student learning outcome assessment, and the value of academic libraries. I am interested in qualitative research methods used to explore the impact of academic libraries on students success and retention.<\/p>\n
One of my current\u00a0interests is to explore the application of the SCALE-UP Classroom concept in academic libraries. The SCALE-UP pedagogy is an effective means to design\u00a0interactive and collaborative classroom settings\u00a0inspired by guided inquiry-based instruction.\u00a0I aspire to investigate and practice active learning principles to create a student-centered learning environment in library instruction.<\/p>\n
Prior to starting my\u00a0doctoral program at USC, I had a stint\u00a0as the Government Information Librarian at Mercer University Libraries where\u00a0I provided research support services in a wide range of social science disciplines. Earlier in my career, I\u00a0earned an M.Ed. degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.<\/p>\n
I have extensive teaching experience on both the undergraduate and graduate levels. My goal in working with students is always to foster a new generation of information-literate leaders and critical thinkers able to succeed in the demanding 21-st century information universe.<\/p>\n
