Requesting Access to the ODS Database:

Regardless of any specific data reporting tool you plan to use, you first need to make sure you have been granted database access.

• Everything starts with database access. Without it, data reporting tools will work but you won’t see any data. On the “Access to ODS Database” request form, make sure to:
• Read the intro and the Reporting Security Guidelines, and when ready, put a checkmark in the “I have read and clearly understand…” box.
• You will need to explain your business need, and if you need additional access to any of the following sensitive student data:
• Bank Account, Disability, Medical, Other Personal, or Social Security Numbers.

Double-check your data permission level after access has been granted! The best way to correct any errors will be to resubmit the request form while briefly describing the issue.

Note: Most data users only need access to Student Data. Select “Reporting Database Access - Student Data”.

Requesting Access to Tableau - Did you know all EWU employees have free access to Tableau?

Tableau is required to view many different data dashboards at EWU. If you haven't already, use the link under the "#1 Database Access" tab.

• To view many of the data dashboards at EWU, you will need Tableau access. Requesting access to Tableau using the link below is for the free version of Tableau.
• Most data users at EWU should find the free version of Tableau meet their needs. Select your EWU Division or College in the dropdown menu and click the “Place Request” button to submit.
• If you want to request the paid, full-version of Tableau, please click here.

Requesting Access to Banner Student:

Not all data users at EWU will need access to Banner Student. If you are unsure if your employment role will require using Banner Student, check with your supervisor.

• Prior to submitting the "Banner Student Access" request form, you will need to:
• Complete the Banner 100 training course in Canvas, and;.
• Review EWU's "Banner Security" guidelines.

• After submitting the form, three things will happen:
• Your request form will first get routed to your supervisor or department chair for their approval;
• Then routed to the appropriate data custodian for their approval;
• and finally, routed back to the IT Help Desk to process your request. IT will notify you by email when everything has been completed.

Requesting Access to Navigate Student:

Navigate is available to members of the EWU community - Students, Staff, Faculty, and Administration.

• Navigate helps everyone stay connected and focused on the success of EWU students by assisting:
• Advisors in manageing their caseload;
• Instructors in learning more about students in their courses;
• In the early identification of struggling students;
• In easing communications with students by providing the option to send texts;
• Different academic departments in communicating and coordinating with each other.

Requesting an Argos Report Writer Role:

All EWU Employees have Argos access as Report Viewers. For most, this role will meet your needs.

• If you need any institutional data or a specific data report but aren't sure if a reporting tool dashboard (like Argos, Tableau, etc.) already exists for your data - or where to find them if they do.

Things to consider:

• Report Writing in Argos requires learning a new set of skills - and will likely take more time and effort than you can spare.
• Personnel in the Office of Institutional Research (IR) have been trained in Argos report writing. Instead of learning report writing, why not let IR write your data report?
• It's likely someone has already requested the same (or similar) data. Please contact us and we'll check.
• If yes, we will show you where and how to access them.
• If not, we'll get started building a dashboard so you can access them.
