Cheney Outreach Program’s “Back-to School Program” Backpack
The Back-To-School Program distributes backpacks filled with necessary school
supplies to help families in need, to allow students to return ready to learn and succeed.
Through donations from our great staff, faculty, and students, this was a great
opportunity for us all to do something to help children in our area.
During EWU Food Drive’s 3rd Annual Feed the Needs campaign, students donated
leftover meal counts to help benefit the Cheney Food Bank and other local hunger effort
relief efforts.
At the end of Spring quarter of 2016, donated items from the dorms (when the
students left for the summer) were sorted by volunteers. Once the items were washed
and sorted, they were sold at our Summer Sale. All items not sold at the following event
were then donated to Cheney School District Clothing/Food Pantries as well as local
homeless/transitional living shelter.
On 13th of August this year, a summer sale was held by the EWU Community FoodDrive
thanks to the generous donations from the EWU Residence Halls. The household items,
clothing, bedding, and other miscellaneous items were then sold and the proceeds given
to Communities in Schools, Cheney Food Bank, and Cheney Outreach Center.
