Responding to the Emotionally Distressed Student: Guidelines for Faculty and Staff
Most people think about faculty and staff in terms of the assistance they provide students in acquiring and applying new knowledge. We know that there are times when faculty/staff find themselves in the role of “first responder” to students who come to school with more than just academic concerns. This presentation is designed to help you identify specific strategies for recognizing and responding to acute distress and other common student problems, including trauma disclosures, anger, and poor reality contact.
