The high incidence of mental health challenges in the university population is particularly evident as the end of the quarter approaches. Missed classes and missed assignments can create a seemingly unsurmountable burden, but students may be reluctant to seek help. Faculty, in turn, may perceive such absences and omissions as a sign of laziness or lack of care, rather than as a symptom of a larger concern.
This workshop will help you understand how a student’s mental health challenges manifest in the classroom, and offer pro-active and universal design strategies to promote success for students struggling with depression, anxiety, grief and other less visible challenges.
