Advising Awards Criteria

EWU ACADA Award Nomination Instructions

All award nominators are asked to submit a PDF copy of a nomination/application letter for a specific award. This letter should summarize the nominee/applicant’s demonstrated qualities for the nomination for the award. This document should provide examples of the outstanding qualifications the individual demonstrates as it relates to the specific criteria of the award. Support and examples for the nomination could include quotes and comments from colleagues and students. The letter should not exceed two pages, singled spaced.

EWU ACADA Outstanding Advising Award – Advising Champion

The EWU ACADA Outstanding Advising Award recognizes individuals who serve as support personnel in roles other than a professional or faculty advisor. These could be members, for example, of Admissions, Career Services, Housing and Residential Life, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Records and Registration, or Student Financial Services. Recipients will be honored at the EWU ACADA Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony in June.

Eligibility

  • Any individual employed by Eastern Washington University and not serving as a professional academic or faculty advisor may be nominated. EWU ACADA membership is not required.
  • Current members of the EWU ACADA Executive Committee are not eligible for consideration for this award. See a list of the executive committee at test-inside.ewu.edu/ewuacada.
  • Current members of the EWU ACADA Awards Committee are not eligible for consideration for this award.
  • Nominees will be considered for one category only. Other categories include Outstanding Professional Academic Advisor and Outstanding Faculty Advisor.

Criteria

Based on nomination materials, the EWU ACADA Awards Committee will assess the degree to which candidates demonstrate the qualities of an advising champion. These qualities include:

  • Demonstrates caring, helpful attitude toward students, faculty, and staff;
  • Respected by students and colleagues;
  • Helps students take responsibility for their own education;
  • Develops relationships with other individuals and departments on campus that help attend to the needs of students;
  • Displays strong understanding of institutional policies, procedures, and regulations;
  • Seeks opportunities to grow professionally and stay up-to-date with changes in campus personnel and institutional policies.

EWU ACADA Outstanding Advising Award – Faculty Advisor

The EWU ACADA Outstanding Advising Award recognizes faculty advisors who have exhibited the hallmarks of quality advising. Recipients will be honored at the EWU ACADA Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony in June.

Eligibility

  • Any faculty member also serving as a major advisor and employed by Eastern Washington University may be nominated. EWU ACADA membership is not required.
  • Current members of the EWU ACADA Executive Committee are not eligible for consideration for this award. See a list of the executive committee at test-inside.ewu.edu/ewuacada.
  • Current members of the EWU ACADA Awards Committee are not eligible for consideration for this award.
  • Nominees will be considered for one category only. Other categories include Outstanding Professional Academic Advisor and Advising Champion.

Criteria

Based on nomination materials, the EWU ACADA Awards Committee will assess the degree to which candidates demonstrate the qualities of an outstanding faculty advisor. These qualities include:

  • Demonstrates caring, helpful attitude toward advisees, administrators, and staff;
  • Respected by students and colleagues;
  • Helps students establish realistic goals and engages them in career planning;
  • Develops relationships with other individuals and departments on campus that help attend to the needs of students;
  • Develops and maintains contacts in the community that can lead to internships or job opportunities for graduates;
  • Displays strong understanding of institutional policies, procedures, and regulations;
  • Seeks opportunities to grow professionally and stay up-to-date with advising best practices.

EWU ACADA Outstanding Advising Award – Professional Academic Advisor

The EWU ACADA Outstanding Advising Award recognizes professional academic advisors who have exhibited the hallmarks of quality advising. Recipients will be honored at the EWU ACADA Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony in June.

Eligibility

  • Any individual serving as a professional academic advisor and employed by Eastern Washington University may be nominated. EWU ACADA membership is not required.
  • Current members of the EWU ACADA Executive Committee are not eligible for consideration for this award. See a list of the executive committee at test-inside.ewu.edu/ewuacada.
  • Current members of the EWU ACADA Awards Committee are not eligible for consideration for this award.
  • Nominees will be considered for one category only. Other categories include Outstanding Faculty Advisor and Advising Champion.

  • Develops relationships with other individuals and departments on campus that help attend to the needs of students;
  • Displays strong understanding of institutional policies, procedures, and regulations;
  • Seeks opportunities to grow professionally and stay up-to-date with advising best practices.
