SUMMARY:Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) & Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP) Awareness Day 5/5 | 11am-3pm | PUB NCR
DESCRIPTION:The phrase “missing and murdered indigenous women” (MMIW) refers to the hundreds of deaths and disappearances of Native American women and girls that continue to plague tribal lands\, rural communities\, and cities in North America each year. \nThe phrase has been expanded to included Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP) as it’s not just women who go missing. \nIn the context of MMIW\, Native American women vanish three times: \n\nWhen they relocate to the cities and rural communities from reservations.\nWhen the media ignores their disappearance and/or murder (more than 95% of MMIW cases have never been covered by the media\, see Lucchesi\, 2019)\, and\nWhen their disappearance and/or murder is never reported by law enforcement (Mandeville\, 2015; Bruce\, 2020).\nWomen and Men\, Native and Non-Native\, are working together to bring awareness and work with organizations across the state\, country\, and continent to give a voice to the MMIW and MMIP.\n\nWe invite everyone to attend a series of events in the EWU PUB NCR on Sunday\, May 5th from 11am-3pm. \n11:00am\nOpening with Rose Creek Drum Group and a Blessing \nWelcome\, Land Acknowledgement & Announcements\nMargo Hill | Evanlene Melting Tallow | War Bear \nStart of the Walk/Rally in front of PUB and return to PUB NCR\nLead by Idella Rattler-King and Tanisha Rattler \nNoon\nEmpowerment\nIdella Rattler-King \nMMIW Video Collage\nLooping Collage of clips from documentaries\, news\, tv & more \n1:00\nThe MMIW Movement and How to Take Action\nMargo Hill |Dawn Pullin \nMissing and Murdered Indigenous Women and People Video\nProduced by Jeff Ferguson & Margo Hill \n2:00\nReading of MMIW/MMIP names\nJeff Ferguson | Margo Hill | Erin Ross | War Bear\nEvanlene Melting Tallow | Connie George and others. \nClose Out Ceremony\nRose Creek Drum Group
