Working outside in the cold weather can be as dangerous as working outside in the heat. If your job involves working outside make sure you know the hazards and stay safe.
- Stay hydrated with warm drinks. Sweet drinks will help with the extra energy you use when working outside, stay away from caffeine and alcohol.
- Dress for the weather. Dress in layers and make sure the outer layer waterproof. A hat is important to keep in your body heat. Make sure to remove wet clothing right away and don’t put it back on until it is completely dry.
- Try to take frequent, short breaks in a warm and dry location.
- Have a work buddy, check up with each other frequently to look for signs of temperature related illnesses and injuries.
