Ivy Leadership Academy
Ivy is based on the theory that exposure to higher education, mentors, role modeling, and planning a future for at-risk youth will increase persistence toward high school completion and encourage college attendance.
Program Details
Ivy is based on the theory that exposure to higher education, mentors, role modeling and planning a future will increase persistence toward high school completion and encourage college attendance. Providing high school students with self-determination to envision a future for themselves will result in strong multicultural leaders, strong family units and healthier successful communities.
Ivy Leadership Academy Program Goals:
- Affinity Develop leadership skills for young people
- Provide a bridge for a seamless transition from high school to college or career
- Increase motivation and persistence toward high school completion
- Empower young people and enhance their self-esteem
- Provide mentoring opportunities for underrepresented high school students from multicultural community leaders
- Cultivate relationships between accomplished leaders as role-models for Ivy Leadership Academy participants
- Enable young people to take ownership in their future career choices by providing multiple demonstrations and models for success
- Demonstrate skills and techniques for dealing with negative behaviors and interactions i.e. bullying, peer pressure
- Encourage a “WE Can-Do Attitude”
The highlight of the Ivy Leadership Academy is the mentor program. The students will be provided a variety of campus or community Exceptional Leaders with whom they can connect. Ivy will continue after the Academy with mentor contact, Ivy Tweets, and a newsletter.
