Diversity & Inclusion Week (DIW) is both a celebration and an illumination of diversity and inclusion. The weeklong series of events has been a staple of EWU’s culture since 2012. Our 2024 theme is Love our Differences. The theme and logo were designed by student, Jasmine Hoffer.

Monday, April 15
Jenny R. Slagle is an enrolled member of the Yakama Nation, and descendant of the Northern Arapaho tribe. The first to graduate college in her family, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration – IT Management. She is a program officer at Inatai Foundation and co-owner of Indigenous Eats, a Native American restaurant with two locations in Spokane. Two of her adult children attended EWU, so she’s also a proud Eagle parent.
Jenny is also on the Partners With Family & Children board, previously on the Washington Budget & Policy Center Board, and the WA211 Statewide Board. Elected in 2019, Jenny is currently the Vice President of the Spokane Public Schools’ Board of Directors. As the first American Indian woman to sit on the SPS Board of Directors, she enjoys engaging and representing each of the diverse communities in Spokane.

Tuesday, April 16
Join us in honoring and celebrating the legacy of late Tejani singer, Selena Quintanilla. We will be doing a white rose scavenger hunt and dance off that includes prizes!

Join us for a screening of the short film, First Time Home. This short film was co-directed by Noemi Librado-Sanchez, a student at EWU. This award winning film documents the journey of four teenage cousins who explore their indigenous Mexican roots while visiting their gravely ill grandfather in Mexico. It introduces viewers to the lives and realities of immigrants, farmworkers, and Indigenous families, showing how they are all connected, even across borders.

Wednesday, April 17
We are looking for students to represent their culture and heritage, whether you identify with African, Asian, European, Indigenous, Latino, Middle Eastern, Pacific Islander, or other heritage, your participation is valued and celebrated. We welcome contributions from individuals worldwide, embracing diversity in its entirety. Don’t miss out on this chance to share and celebrate your culture with the EWU community!

OneLove’s workshops inspire young people to recognize and talk about an issue that affects everyone: relationships. In a world where emotionally unhealthy and abusive behaviors have become the norm, young people not only need, but are hungry for, knowledge that helps them build healthy relationships.
Join our One Love educators for this film and guided discussion that tells the compelling story of an abusive relationship-from its sweet beginnings to the tragic end. The authentic depiction of unhealthy behaviors escalating into abuse helps people recognize and understand the early signs of relationship abuse. One Love’s workshops inspire young people to recognize and talk about an issue that affects everyone. In a world where emotionally unhealthy and abusive behaviors have become the norm, young people not only need, but are hungry for, knowledge that helps them build healthy ones.

Diversity & Inclusion Week Theme and Logo
We are thrilled to announce the winner of the Diversity & Inclusion Week Theme and Logo Contest, student, Jasmine Hoffer. Jasmine is a Junior at EWU studying Communication and Public Relations with a minor in Design. Jasmine’s concept, “Love our Differences” was selected from 11 excellent student entries.
This year’s t-shirt will be a medium to dark heather gray, and as always, on the softest, comfiest t-shirt material. The logo will be used on marketing materials for this year’s events taking place Monday, April 15, 2024 through Friday, April 19, 2024.
