{"id":188,"date":"2022-05-24T13:51:24","date_gmt":"2022-05-24T20:51:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/test-inside.ewu.edu\/cpac-new\/?page_id=188"},"modified":"2025-10-21T13:51:58","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T20:51:58","slug":"edit-course","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/test-inside.ewu.edu\/cpac\/edit-course\/","title":{"rendered":"Edit Course"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"gb-container gb-container-7f9da3ef\"><div class=\"gb-inside-container\">\n<div class=\"gb-grid-wrapper gb-grid-wrapper-a596e468\">\n<div class=\"gb-grid-column gb-grid-column-864a546f\"><div class=\"gb-container gb-container-864a546f\"><div class=\"gb-inside-container\">\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-contrast-color\">Edit Course<\/mark><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-contrast-color\">After logging in to CIM, edits can be made to an existing course or a new course proposal that has been saved but not yet submitted.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-contrast-color\">Before editing a course,&nbsp;<\/mark><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-contrast-color\">review the&nbsp;information expected for the fields intended to be edited and prepare any additional materials that may be needed.<\/mark><\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"gb-container gb-container-5dc1fbe6\"><div class=\"gb-inside-container\">\n<div class=\"gb-grid-wrapper gb-grid-wrapper-f0359743\">\n<div class=\"gb-grid-column gb-grid-column-b238b76c\"><div class=\"gb-container gb-container-b238b76c\"><div class=\"gb-inside-container\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reasons to Edit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Edits must be submitted for a course if there will be a change in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Course title, subject code, or number<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Course prerequisites<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Course credits<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grading mode<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Course description<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Crosslist or general education information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Modality<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mode of instruction<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Move to stacked course delivery<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A course may also be submitted to be banked to remove it from the Catalog.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"gb-button-wrapper gb-button-wrapper-f15d400c\">\n\n<a class=\"gb-button gb-button-7140893e gb-button-text\" href=\"https:\/\/cpac.ewu.edu\/courseadmin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Login to CIM<\/a>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Edit Instructions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When editing a course, review the <a href=\"https:\/\/test-inside.ewu.edu\/cpac\/course-description\/\">Course Description<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/test-inside.ewu.edu\/cpac\/prerequisite-recommendations\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/test-inside.ewu.edu\/cpac\/prerequisite-recommendations\/\">Prerequisite Recommendations<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/test-inside.ewu.edu\/cpac\/modes-of-instruction\/\">Modes of Instruction<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/test-inside.ewu.edu\/cpac\/credit-hour-definitions\/#courserepeatcodes\">Course Repeat Codes<\/a> resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*When editing a course that has a <strong>corequisite<\/strong>, the corequisite course must also be submitted into the workflow. These types of courses have the Mode of Instruction as LEL, LOC, LAB, or CLI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In CIM, use the search box to search current courses. Select&nbsp;<strong>Search Current<\/strong>. Results will appear in the box below. Use an asterisk in your search as a wildcard.<br><strong>Search*<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Finds everything that&nbsp;<em>starts<\/em>&nbsp;with your search query\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>*Search<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Finds everything that&nbsp;<em>ends<\/em>&nbsp;with your search query<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>*Search*<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Finds everything that&nbsp;<em>contains<\/em>&nbsp;your search query<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click to select the course you want to edit. Information about the course will appear below.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Edit Course<\/strong>. An&nbsp;<strong>Edit Course<\/strong>&nbsp;form will open in a new window.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Update the <strong>Term<\/strong> box (quarter or semester and current catalog year) to the most current term.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make the edits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are three options for saving changes:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Save &amp; Submit<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; saves the changes and submits the proposal for review, starting the workflow.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Save Changes<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; saves the changes without submitting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cancel<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; discards the changes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Course Ecosystem<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>After editing a course it is imperative to review the course ecosystem that is located in CIM on the course page. This ecosystem displays links to the locations where the course is associated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are several categories in the ecosystem including Catalog pages or Programs referencing the course, and Other Courses referencing the course. There are sub-categories under the Other Courses section that include <strong>In the Catalog Description<\/strong> and <strong>As a Banner Prerequisite<\/strong>. For cross-listed courses, there will be listings for both courses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a course proposal is impacting several programs and courses, it is the submitter\u2019s responsibility to contact the impacted departments about the proposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"after-submission\">After Submission<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Each approver in the workflow is notified that a task in CIM is waiting for their review. <strong>It is the responsibility of the submitter to follow the proposal and ensure that the proposal progresses through the <a href=\"https:\/\/test-inside.ewu.edu\/cpac\/workflow\/\">approval workflow<\/a> in the established timeline<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"modifications\">Modifications<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If modification is needed during the approval process, this can be handled by one of the following methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rollback<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The proposal needs significant changes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The person reviewing sends the document back to the initiator for changes and communicates with the initiator to clarify what changes are required. The proposal then moves forward following the full workflow approval process.&nbsp;<strong><strong>It is the responsibility of the submitter to follow the proposal and ensure that the proposal progresses through the <a href=\"https:\/\/test-inside.ewu.edu\/cpac\/workflow\/\">approval workflow<\/a> in the established timeline.<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Edit by Current Reviewer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For minor changes that are agreed upon by submitter\/department and reviewer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>These might include a change in attached syllabus or minor edit to course description. However, it is not the reviewer or CPAC&#8217;s responsibility to make changes to course or program proposals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"banking-a-course\">Banking a Course<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To remove a course from the catalog, it can be banked. Once it has been determined it&#8217;s appropriate to bank the course it can be submitted onto the workflow during the open curriculum change cycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Banking Instructions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Follow steps 1-3 under&nbsp;<strong>Editing a course<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Update the <strong>Requested Effective Change Date<\/strong> term to the latest listed term. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the Course Status dropdown menu, choose&nbsp;<strong>Banked<\/strong>&nbsp;to bank the course.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Optional Notes<\/strong> may be added to the submission to explain why the course was submitted to be banked.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Save &amp; Submit<\/strong>&nbsp;to save the changes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>For details about banking or retrieving a banked a course, review&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/test-inside.ewu.edu\/policies\/knowledge-base\/ap-303-35-program-and-course-management\/#chapter-7-course-and-program-banking-and-discontinuance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Academic Policy 303-35 Ch. 7<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"gb-grid-column gb-grid-column-9f4be1b4\"><div class=\"gb-container gb-container-9f4be1b4\"><div class=\"gb-inside-container\">\n<div class=\"gb-container gb-container-2368840a\"><div class=\"gb-inside-container\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Need Help?
