I partnered with anysoldier.com and picked a Marine who requested some items be sent to him and 8 other Marines who are currently in Iraq. My students and their families donated some items to be sent. The students made small care packages for each of the 9 Marines and wrote a letter to be sent to them.
The project was done with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office and the students created a huge thank you card as a class to give to the police officers to thank them for all they do for our community. In return, the police officers took a picture with them holding the card and I showed the class how much the police officers appreciated the card and loved the kind act of service.
With my first grade class we contacted Spokane, Washington State Troopers, and had a State Trooper come into our classroom to share with our class what a trooper does for our community. The trooper let the students ask him questions and get to build a relationship with our local patrol. After the visit the students wrote thank you letters for the troopers in Spokane.
The middle school and high school students I did my project with worked with The American Red Cross to get their first aid certification. They went to a training and worked with teachers and coaches of the local school district to help them get CPR and first aid certified. This certification allows students to be a valuable asset to their communities and help people who are in a potential medical emergency.
The Oaks at Inglewood is an assisted living facility in Stockton California. Their mission is to fulfill the lifestyles of their patients by making them feel welcome and providing an extensive list of activities and amenities.
The purpose of the HOA is to help facilitate the care and upkeep of a neighborhood called Pine Rock Ridge in Spokane Valley. The HOA consists of roughly 140 homes and contracts with various service providers for landscaping and snow removal. They also pay (with dues from homeowners) to service a sewer pump house that pumps waste from homes in the neighborhood to the county’s sewer system. The HOA has the authority to act as liaison between homeowners and the city of Spokane Valley to mitigate issues concerning streets, street lighting and sewer service.
